From noon until 11.00pm on Monday 7^th May, the May Bank Holiday, there will be all sorts of fun and games here at the Windmill Hill Community Centre. This is open to non-members as well as members to come along during the afternoon or evening to enjoy playing skittles, darts, table tennis, table football and pool, along with other children’s games and face painting. ‘I’m Treasurer for the WHCA and Chair of the Social Club. I enjoy bringing my professional expertise to bear on the running of the bar, and take a keen interest in the real ales we sell, sampling them on a regular basis. I can heartily recommend the monthly quizzes as a good evenings entertainment. I usually pop into the bar on a Sunday afternoon for a couple of hours, and would love to see more people in there, relishing the good company and excellent beer.’

Triumphant Quiz Winners Celebrate Victory

The winning quiz team at the last Quiz’n'Curry night were proud to celebrate their victory with a well-earned glass or two. Fuelled by Trish’s curry, they achieved an impressively high score in the fearsome Picture Round, to emerge as winners in a closely fought and highly enjoyable contest!

The next Quiz’n'Curry night is on Friday 27th April, all welcome.

’I have lived on the Hill since 1979 but didn’t get involved with the Community Centre until 1988, when Hill Views, the local Community newspaper was assembled and distributed there. After several years when I was busy doing other things I joined the committee again as Secretary and am now the Chairperson. We want to see some special events this year to mark the 40^th Anniversary of Windmill Hill Community Association, to acknowledge some of the past achievements and get even more people of all ages involved in the plans for the future.’

“I’ve been using the Community Centre for about five years as a regular member of the monthly Book Group, and more recently enjoying the Quiz on the last Friday of the month. I joined the Committee last summer and am doing what I can to help with fund raising. The Association is run on an entirely voluntary basis with no outside income. It’s quite remarkable what can be achieved by positive people working together in a great community like Windmill Hill.”

Redecorating at the WHCA

On the weekend of the 28th and 29th January a group of students from Bristol University gave the rear corridor at the WHCA a much-needed facelift. It was a long time since it had been redecorated and it now looks much brighter and fresher.

Many thanks to the students who gave up their weekend to transform the corridor for us: Angela, Zoe, Tianxin, Emily, Shamsa, Chloe, Pippa, Jonny, and also to Christine for making the arrangements.

Guest Ale Update

The WHCA Social Club is continuing to offer a programme of guest real ales this year, with the emphasis on quality and value for money. Currently on offer is Bristol Brewery Co.’s ’7′, a premium English bitter with a well-balanced, toffee-malt character, to be followed by Tower Brewery’s ‘Winter Spirit’: a deep brown, full-bodied winter brew at 5% ABV – guaranteed to warm the cockles of your heart!

New Dance Classes at WHCA

We are delighted to announce two new dance classes at WHCA: Adult Jazz dance on Mondays 7.45-8.45pm, and Adult Ballet (beginner) on Mondays 8.45-9.45pm. Classes start from 16th January and are the perfect way to learn a new skill, keep in touch with your creative side and shake off those winter blues! New Ales on Sale

The Social Club has updated its Real Ale offerings: currently on sale are St Austell Brewery’s Premium Cornish Ale (4.2% vol) and Tetley’s delicious Christmas Cracker (4.3% vol), both a snip at £2.50/pint. Do come and try!
